Want a Job Ignore These Outdating Job Hunting Beliefs
Want a Job Ignore These Outdating Job Hunting BeliefsDespite a wealth of great job-hunting advice, many prospective job seekers are still clinging to outdated job-hunting and resume writing guidelines that hinder their search for a job. If youve been sending your same old resume from 10 years ago with a Dear Sir or Madam, then youve probably learned that these methods have become obsolete. If any of the following job hunting problems match you, then you need to implement corrective measures as soon as possible if you want to achieve success in 20111. Not studying your competitionCandidates fail to check out their competition when they start their job search. They reason that their generalized resume worked in the past and that it will continue to work in the future, but that just is not the case any longer. You resume will be stacked against incredibly high skilled competition who probably have seen and done things that you present as standout attributes on your resume. If you have a diverse set of skills, youll need to go the extra mile to get into your chosen career. Youll need to establish connections and contacts with people in the industry to help fill in any career gaps you have and to boost your education and work experience. And youll need a compelling resume that clearly develops a connection to your prospective employer.2. Not caring about your online identitySocial media is the way of the world now, and like it or not, its not going anywhere and people pay a lot of attention to it. Who do you think an employer is going to choose, the guy with the drunken Facebook profile picture or the geschftlicher umgang professional LinkedIn page? 10 years ago no one thought about having themselves Googled, no one really even knew what Google welches but now you have to have an online profile to get noticed. You have to make yourself an online brand and highlight yourself above the pack.3. Disregarding trends in resumesIf you cant get past the old resume template with your list of qualifications, then you are going to find the job market in 2011 to be very harsh. Companies receive hundreds of resumes a day, so it becomes critical for potential employees to document the impact of their work and to back up their accomplishments through quantitative means. For a business to hire you they want to make sure that you are going to positively impact their business, and that means on the bottom line, are you going to make their business more profitable. You have to have something on your resume that shows how you have positively impacted growth in one way or another. For executives or senior-level employees, personal branding has become the newest trend in the job hunt. This is a delicate process and you will need someone who understands developing a branded persona. You have to become the expert in your field.Hopefully these tips will help you get past anything that was holding you back and put you on the road to new employmentGuest Post by Erin Kennedy, CPRW, CERW, BS/HR, is a Certified Professional Executive Resume Writer/Career Consultant and President of Professional Resume Services, Inc. This Photo of Beyonce and Ed Sheeran is Proof of Inequality in Pop Music, Says Twitter
This Photo of Beyonce and Ed Sheeran is Proof of Inequality in Pop Music, Says Twitter Therbeie are few names in pop music as big as Beyonce and Ed Sheeran. When the two stars came together to record Perfect (the duet), it was the answer to many music fans pop music prayers. Who wouldve thought the croony ballad would cause controversy about gender equality?Over the weekend, Beyonce and Ed Performed at the Global Citizen festival in Johannesburg, South Africa. The concert honored the late Nelson Mandela and raised money for Global Citizen, an organization with the mission to end global poverty. And while that sounds like all rainbows and sunshine, the contrast between Beyonce and Ed Sheerans outfits raised some serious questions ansprechbar about gender equality. On stage, Beyonce wore an epic pink ball gown a la the most beautiful flamingo at the zoo. But Ed showed up in black jeans and a t-shirt. People began to question the amount of effort we expect women to put into their appearanc es, versus the men in their life. Especially famous women.Source TwitterEd Sheeran is a 27 year old man. The fact weve enabled him to feel its ok to dress like this at all, let alone next to Beyonc really boils my p***, shonfaye said in a viral tweet that started this whole thing. No shade but actual shade Ed and Beyonc together look like roughly 75% of heterosexual couples, one Elle article read. However, some people arent so sure this contrast is because of gender. They attribute it to personal brand and personal brand only. When youre as talented as Ed or Bey, you can get away with any dresscode, beewol wrote. Oh and you set the trend, you dont follow it.Beyonce has always been going and Ed has always been laid back, its_okaytho wrote. This has nothing to do with the standards of men and women. Its rather just a personal choice a singer makes.Yes, these outfits align with the respective artists brands. But some Twitter users are pointing out that their brands being so different in th e same genre of music is a direct reflection of the differing expectations we have for male and female artists.Think about the amount of effort Beyonce must put into her concerts to be considered on the top of her game, while Ed Sheeran stands still with his guitar. Think of the constant red carpet looks Beyonce must invest her hard earned (albeit, billions of) dollars into. Think of the production and the hard-thought lyrics Beyonce has to put out to be considered an icon. Ed Sheerans biggest song of last year was a song originally penned for Rihanna. This photo is v v v v representative of what we expect from men and women at the top of their game, isnt it?, sillyolddaniel asked.I get this. Even tho I appreciate good musicians in normal clothes, the double standard is ridiculous, garlicmeg wrote.Source TwitterI think garlicmeg makes a good point. This discussion isnt about Ed Sheerans talent. That man has sold millions of records. Hes irrevocably talented. But this conversation isnt really about Beyonce and Ed at all. Its about something bigger how to we qualify and quantify womens art? No one is asking Ed Sheerans success to be collateral damage in this discussion.Dont miss out on articles like these. community.

Encouraging Employees to Stop Eating Al Desco - Spark Hire
Encouraging Employees to Stop Eating Al Desco - Spark HireBe honest, youvespent mora time eating at your desk than you have your dining room table. Dont be ashamed, lunch in the workplace is a common thing (and hilariously parodied here). If your bro culture is all go, go, go, its likely youve had a lunch or two al desco, enjoying some leftovers over a crumb-laiden keyboard. Eating at your desk, however, may have detrimental effects on your workplace, and your own health. As an office manager or HR professional, it may be time to start convincing your employees to eat out.First off, lunch in the workplace often spawns from a specific office culture. Many employees who eat at their desk either feel too scared to leave the office for lunch, fearing scorn from superiors for leaving with work to do. Others opt out of lunch to skip out of the office early. Neither is particularly encouraging, or good for a happy office culture. Employees should feel they can take a break during their day t o eat without fearing scorn.Eating lunch at your desk may also breed an unhealthy workplace. Food particles can get stuck in keyboards and elsewhere, cultivating a germ colony from cube to cube. It also encourages overeating, as employees are likely to breeze through lunch and continue snacking after they might otherwise be full. Quick eating without getting up afterward to stretch or walk around may also cause digestion problems. It can be tricky for employees to find a place to eat a home-packed lunch (often a cost-saver) without eating at their desk. Not all offices have the resources to have large lunchrooms. If you can, though, provide a small lunchroom, or recommend places in the area where you can take food into. If you cant get people to stop eating at their desk, encourage employees to get out and walk. A good leader recognizes the need to disengage from work briefly in order to actually increase productivity. A short break for lunch will more likely re-energize employees, c reating a more productive workplace. An office culture which encourages, rather than discourages, employees to lunch at their desk may be a less productive workplace, and more than likely one employees feel more of a need to distance themselves from after hours. If employees feel chained to their desk during work hours they may become more bitter about having to do tasks after hours. So do your employees and your company a favor and encourage people to eat lunch al fresco rather than al desco.Do you think employees who eat at their desk are harming your company culture? This is the biggest mistake people make on their resume
This is the biggest mistake people make on their resumeThis is the biggest mistake people make on their resumeCeleste Joy Diaz, the recruiting manager for university programs at Amazon, said her team doesnt like to talk about red flags. But there is one big thing that can irk recruiters like Diaz during the application process namedropping your place of employment, without explaining what you did there.Titles are great, but we want to understand what was the project you owned, what was the scope of a project, and what did you accomplish, Diaz told geschftlicher umgang Insider.Simply stating in your resumethat you worked at Google, The New York Times, or some other name-brand company is impressive, but it doesnt really communicate what you did with that opportunity. That doesnt just apply to recruiters at Amazon, either. Career experts across the board have named lack of explanation as one of the biggest mistakes that applicants make in their resumes.Lack of measurements and results in the file is my biggest resume pet peeve, executive resume writer and career strategist Adrienne Tom previously told Business Insider. Without any measurements of success, the file is lacking proof of skill. So, expand upon what you did in that job that brought value - whether thats an amount of revenue you produced, projects you led, or how you excelled in your monthly goals. Including the numbers that back up your success is key, Tina Nicolai, executive career coach and founder of Resume Writers Ink, previously told Business Insider.Be as specific as possible. Write, Helped grow revenue by 500% to $1 million in 12 month period by doing X instead of Helped grow revenue, Nicolai said.Employers need numbers to be able to fully evaluate the scope of your bandwidth, Nicolai said. No position is exempt from measuring results. And metrics help employers determine if a person is capable of leading a team, managing clients, or growing the business. This extends to job interviews as well, Dia z said. She recommended discussing your previous roles with other people, so you can practice giving concrete examples of your achievements and explaining what your job meant beyond the title and the company.People might leid take the time to think about the impact of the work theyve done, Diaz said. I want to understand scope of impact more than just job titles. This article first appeared on Business Insider.

Active Duty Enlisted Basic Military Pay Charts 2019
Active Duty Enlisted Basic Military Pay Charts 2019Active Duty Enlisted Basic Military Pay Charts 2019The enlisted personnel of all branches of service received a 2.6 percent military pay raise for all pay grades effective January 1, 2019. Base pay is the saatkorn across all service branches and is based on rank and time in service, with pay raises according to years of creditable service. There are two distinct career paths in the military Commissioned officers and enlisted. How U.S. Military Pay is Determined Each military service has its own name for the various enlisted ranks (Navy and Coast Guard are the same), but they share the same ranking scales and base pay regardless of their military occupational specialty (MOS) or job. However, many jobs in the military offer specialty pays and bonuses. These charts do not reflect the different specialty pays that are available within the military branches. Most enlisted members enter the military at the lowest pay grade (E-1) and c limb the pay scale to higher positions with greater pay. Enlisted pay grades range from E-1 through E-9 (E represents Enlisted, and refers to that rank across all branches of the miliary. An E-1 in the Army is a private, in the Navy an ensign, and so on). Military members receive a monthly base pay which is based on their rank and time in service.Military payis subject to income tax unless it is earned in a designated combat zone. Commissioned Officer Pay in the U.S. Military To gain the pay advantages of a commissioned officer, some enter the military with a higher education degree and begin their military careers through one of the officer candidate schools some are high school graduates who attend a service academy or a civilian college while participating in an ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program. There are other enlisted to officer commissioning programs as well, such as warrant officer programs and limited duty officer. Neither requires advanced education after h igh school, but have restrictions to command level billets as they increase in time and rank. Types of Special Pay in the U.S. Military The military maintains various other pays that are not included as part of the pay tables below. Additionally, there are a number of allowances provided, including the clothing allowance, basic allowance for housing and cost of living allowance. These allowances are not taxed as they are not considered pay. However, there are other special pays that are taxed Dive pay, jump pay, hazardous duty pay, hostile fire pay, combat pay, submarine pay, flight pay and special professionals pay for lawyers, doctors and nurses. The basic pay chartsbelow are for enlisted members of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard for the calendar year 2019.
